My name is Jiří Hlávka. I live and create in the wine-growing region near the town of Znojmo. Nature and wood have inspired me since childhood, and my goal is to create meaningful works that reflect my passion for craftsmanship. I have been dedicated to artistic wood carving since 2006. I began with interior decorative furniture, but over time my work evolved towards expressive sculptures, lighting, jewellery, and artistic décor. Most pieces are individually designed according to each client’s vision.
Every piece I create is a one-of-a-kind original. Crafting refined artwork requires patience, precision, and time, and the process depends on the complexity of each commission.
The artist and the process

The most time-consuming stage is the crafting process. Using traditional carving tools, I first shape the form and gradually refine it through detailed handwork. Depending on the concept, I may incorporate elements such as natural minerals, lighting features, or complementary pieces of wood.
Production
Each creation begins with a personal consultation to define the vision and key details of the project. I then prepare a hand-drawn design concept to bring the idea to life. The next step is selecting the right piece of wood — a crucial stage, especially for expressive works and furniture. I never use metal joints or screws. Instead, I rely on traditional wooden dowels and wedges, ensuring stability and authenticity. This approach requires carefully selected wood that is naturally strong and built to last.
Wood selection & design

The final stage is the finishing process, where the piece is treated with carefully selected coatings such as natural oils, waxes, or protective lacquers. The choice depends on the client’s vision and the character of the artwork. Finished in this way, each piece is designed to last a lifetime — becoming an object that can be passed down through generations.
